The CNet PowerNIC 650Eplus Series PnP Ethernet Adapter RPL Boot ROM How to install the RPL Boot ROM for Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 Server 1.Installing the Remoteboot Service on the Server. On the Windows NT Server computer, log on to a user account that belongs to the Administrator local group. a.In Control Panel, choose the Network icon. b.In the Network Settings dialog box, choose the Add Software button. c.In the Add Network Software dialog box, select the Remoteboot Service. NOTE: If you did not install DLC Protocol, select the DLC Protocol first. d.In the Remoteboot Setup dialog box, choose . e.In the Windows NT Setup dialog box, choose . f.In the Windows NT Setup dialog box, the system prompt for you to key in where is the Remoteboot Client files. If you are installed from CD, and the CD-ROM is drive D, please key in: D:\CLIENTS\RPL and choose . g.In the Network Settings dialog box, choose . h.Restart now. 2.Starting Remoteboot Service a.In Control Panel, choose the Services icon. b.In the Services dialog box, select the Remoteboot Service. c.Choose the button. d.Choose the button. NOTE: The service is installed as a manual service, meaning that you have to start it each time you want it to run. 3.Installing MS-DOS Files for Remoteboot Workstation. Copy MS DOS files (including system files IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS), to the \WINNT35\RPL\RPLFILES\BINFILES\DOSxxx, where xxx is the version number, (for example, DOS622). Under a DOS workstation, a.make a DOS bootable diskette, containing some useful DOS program you need. b.use ATTRIB command to remove the hidden attribute of the system files. ATTRIB -S -H A:\IO.SYS ATTRIB -S -H A:\MSDOS.SYS Under a DOS session of NT server, COPY A:*.* C:\WINNT35\RPL\RPLFILES\BINFILES\DOS622 4.Copy the MS DOS device driver for the CNet PowerNIC 650Eplus. Under a DOS session of NT server, insert the CNet driver diskette in drive A, COPY A:\NDIS2DOS\CN650.DOS C:\WINNT35\RPL\BBLOCK\NDIS 5.Create the directory for the CNet PowerNIC 650Eplus. Under a DOS session of NT server, CD \WINNT35\RPL\BBLOCK\NETBEUI MD CN650EP CD CN650EP Copy A:\BOOTROM\WINNT\CN650EP.CNF Copy A:\BOOTROM\WINNT\PROTOCOL.INI 6.Add a block record for the CNet PowerNIC 650Eplus. Under DOS workstation, run SETUP.EXE. Configure the CNet PowerNIC 650Eplus to "Boot ROM Enable". 8.Reboot the Remoteboot workstation. Remember to run CMOS setup. Let any drive (C or D, A, B) setting to be "Not installed". 9.Starting Remoteboot Manager Create a profile and add a new workstation for the CNet PowerNIC 650Eplus. a.From the Network Administration program group, choose the Remoteboot Manager icon. b.From the Remoteboot menu, choose New Profile. c.In the New Profile dialog box, type a name for this profile. In the Configuration box, choose a configuration you named in procedure 5, ConfigComment= "DOS 6.22 CN650EP". d.From the View menu, choose Refresh. e.From the Remoteboot menu, choose Convert Adapters. f.In the Workstation Name box, type a name for the workstation. In the Workstation In Profile box, choose the profile "DOS 6.22 CN650EP", created in procedure c. g.Choose the button. 10.Now, the workstation equipped with Boot ROM on the CNet PowerNIC 650Eplus, will be attached to the Windows NT Server without any hard disk or floppy.
